Hospital Description:

Is a 39-bed acute care Joint Commission Accredited facility located in the heart of Dinosaur Land, Utah.  The hospital completed a two-phase construction project in 2004, which included an 18,000 square foot addition. The new addition houses a new Emergency Room with nine individual rooms, including two state-of-the-art trauma rooms. It also houses a new ICU unit with four individual rooms, and a complete new out-patient surgery area, including a new larger operating room for large orthopedic cases.

During Phase II of the construction project, the OB unit was renovated to include three delivery rooms and five individual postpartum rooms. The radiology department was also expanded and completely renovated. In 2008, another new expansion was completed which included a two story 22,000 square foot building that will eventually  house six new physician offices; has a new registration area for outpatients; and provides the hospital with a new entrance.

The Emergency Room treats over 14,000 patients a year and is staffed 24-hours a day with a dedicated emergency room physician. Our newly renovated OB department delivers over 450 babies a year.

Services available at the Center include, MRI, CT Scan, digital mammography, nuclear medicine studies, 4-D ultrasound, Bone Densitometry, PH and mannometry studies, chemotherapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy and a COLA certified laboratory. The Center currently has 34 affiliated physicians. Specialties include family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, radiology, pathology, orthopedics, ENT, general surgery, urology, OB/GYN, podiatry, ophthalmology and physiatry. At the Center our physicians enjoy practicing medicine in a rural setting, with the latest technology at their fingertips, enjoy a slower pace of life, and work with a great staff of highly qualified nurses and technicians.

The Center serves the population of Uintah (population 28,800), Duchesne (population 16,100), and Daggett (population 960), counties in Utah, and Rio Blanco county in Colorado (population 6300).

Community Description:
Is located in eastern Utah near the Colorado State Line, and 175 miles (281.6 km) east of Salt Lake City. It is bordered on the north by the Uinta Mountains, one of the few mountains ranges in the world which lie in an east-west rather than the usual north to south direction. The Book Cliffs lie to the south, and Blue Mountain to the east, it lies inAshley Valley, named in honor of William H. Ashley, an early fur trader who entered this area in 1825 by floating down the Green Riverin a bull boat made of animal hides.  Unlike many Utah towns, was not settled initially by Mormon pioneers. Brigham Youngsent a scouting party to Uinta Basin in 1861 and received word back the area was good for nothing but nomad purposes, hunting grounds for Indians and "to hold the world together." That same year, President Abraham Lincoln set the area aside as the Uintah Indian ReservationCaptain Pardon Dodds was appointed Indian agent for this reservation.[3]
The population was 9,089 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Uintah County and is about thirty miles (48.3 km) west of the Colorado border.[4] The city's County Airport has scheduled air service to Denver provided by Great Lakes Aviation. Service is subsidized by the Essential Air Service program. There is no  air service to Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah.
A major economy of the town is derived from extracting natural resources throughout Uintah County includingpetroleumnatural gasphosphate, and uintaite - more commonly known as Gilsonite. Tourism also plays a major role in the economy due to the town's roots in the Old West and being a large site of ancient dinosaur fossils. The surrounding areas are popular among outdoor enthusiasts as they are situated near plentiful spots for fishingfly fishinghunting, and other outdoor activities.
